Our Objective & Mission

  • To develop the inclusion of people with disabilities into the generic recreational community, with a subsequent respite outcome for carers.
  • To provide individualized support to people with disabilities to access sport and recreation options of their choice.
  • To educate generic service providers to accept people with disabilities as fully participating members of society.
  • To support and provide respite to carers.
  • Recreational Options

    Recreational Options is achieved by MADSAR working in partnership with people with disabilities and the community. It is supporting people with disabilities to participate in their choice of local community activities, whilst being supported by another community resident with similar interests.

    This support is faded out, when it is clear that the community recreational group or support person can assist the person with a disability without our intervention. It is the person themselves who determine what recreational pursuits they wish to become involved with and how much support they will need. Choices made may range from swimming groups, youth clubs, sporting outlets, craft activities, to more passive recreational choices such as meditation groups, library visits to a coffee and chat with a friend.

    Priority is given to people who:

    * live with aged carers

    * those who are isolated from their community

    * people without any day options

    * children with behavioural issues

    All you need to do to become a member is:

    * pay an annual membership fee ($20 single, $40 family)

    * pay an annual support fee ($50)

    * and have fun

    Manta Rays Swimming Team - For Children With Disabilities

    The Manta Rays swimming team was formed in 1995 by the Principal of North Mandurah Education Support Centre.

    It was her vision to provide a recreational activity for children with a disability, interested in swimming. Many students with an intellectual or physical disability are unable to play the same sports as their mainstream peers.

    Swimming, however, is a sport that caters for all skills and abilities.

    In 1997 Manta Rays came under the MADSAR umbrella.
