- The Seniors Recreation
Council was officially launched in 1989 with the aim of
supporting the establishment of new groups wishing to
provide active recreation for the over fifties and provide
advice to the community where required. The council became
an incorporated body in May 1992.
The Council is
a non-government organisation relying on the efforts of
volunteers, however considerable administrative and logistical
support is provided by the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR),
this support is ‘in-kind’ – office space, mailing,
phone/fax, computers and photocopying.
During the past twelve years
the Council has continued to develop and implement a range of
innovative programs to foster the participation of people over
fifty in sport and physical activity through a range of
initiatives.
These initiatives such as the
Have A Go Days, Country Forums and Seminars, Add Life to Your
Years Directory, pre-retirement seminars and presentations,
Country affiliate network, New Club development, Volunteers
education and Seniors Impact Days have made a difference to the
lives, lifestyle and well being of persons over fifty in WA.
